abraham lincoln o'neill

We had to put our sweet little dog to sleep yesterday.

Needless to say, our hearts are broken, and already we miss him like crazy.

  8. So sorry to hear that, Kate. From the stories your Greek stepmother has told, he had a heckuva life and gave a lot of love. Jamie, Taj and I are thinking of you guys.

  9. Oh, it makes me cry just reading these response. Abe was the best nephew I ever could have dreamed of having. He was such a good snuggler and protector!

I miss him like crazy town already.

  13. You, Chris, and the Stinker have been in my thoughts a bunch Kater. Sending you much love.

Sometimes, in my day job, I find my faith in humanity getting a little shaky. It's quickly restored when I think instead about what you did Kater.

You gave a street dog a chance at a great life. You stuck by him and stuck with it even though it wasn't always a breeze and even though he wasn't always easy to manage or easy to handle. Of course, the Abe some of us came to know and love was (mostly!) a more subdued and easy going fellow than the stories I've heard from his Chicago days suggested.

Regardless, you never quit or gave him up because it wasn't easy or convenient. Many people would have (and do every day) but you never did.

Instead you raised a sweet wonderful boy who made lots of friends and touched lots of lives.

I know you received as much as you gave but I hope you also know that you gave Abe the three most important things I think we can give our pets - a safe and comfortable home, an endless supply of love, and respect for his dignity until his last day. All animals - and people for that matter - should be so blessed.

You gave him a great life Kate - a truly wonderful and great life. And he loved you every day for that.

  14. Kate,
Abe went with you like peanut butter with jelly. I neve saw a dog who loved beggin' strips so much. He was such an easy dog to be around thanks to the loving home you gave him after his rough start.

  15. we are so sorry to hear this. Losing a pet is so damn hard, it just rips your heart out. But you know you did the right thing and gave him the best life possible. Take comfort in that. xo

  16. Thank you for the wonderful comments and e-mails and flowers and love. I'm crazy lonely for my dog, but I don't feel alone, thanks to my husband and family and friends. Abe was, in the words of Sue Shu, a g'boy, and we'll be missing him for a very long time.
